1. ELIGIBILITY


The FEATured International Singing Competition (further referred to as The FEATured) is open to singers of all ages and countries


2. HOW TO REGISTER


To enter the competition, one must complete registration form and pay registration fee. The registration fee is due upon registration and is non-refundable. For contestants under 18 years old, registration form must be signed by a parent or guardian of the contestant. Incomplete and late applications will not be processed. Any changes or additions to applications should be requested before the registration period is officially closed. There is a $35 fee associated with any additions or changes to the registration form including change to the program. Each contestant is obliged to provide accurate, current and complete information. The FEATured is not responsible for any contestant's bank fees and charges that may be imposed as a result of currency conversion, foreign exchange or non-sufficient funds transaction


3. AGE DIVISIONS


There is no age limit for contestants. Solo as well as Duo/Trio/Group performances are allowed. In Duo/Trio/Group the age is defined by the age of the oldest of contestants. Multiple winners will be chosen in each of the following age groups:


a. 9 and under

b. 10-11

c. 12-13

c. 14-17

d. 18+


4. NOMINATIONS


For each age division there are 3 nominations:


a. Classical Music: includes operatic arias or art songs from Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary periods


b. Musical Theater: includes songs from Broadway, off-Broadway or any international musical, also Disney songs if sung with piano accompaniment


c. Pop and Jazz: Jazz, Alternative, Country, Pop, R&B, Rock and original compositions, also Disney songs if sung with backing track


One needs to contact The FEATured if unsure what nomination selected song belongs to. Up to 2 entries for soloists and Duet/Trio/Groups are allowed: contestants can register to compete in two of the three nominations listed above within their age division. However, contestants cannot register to compete more than once within the same nomination. Registering for more than one nomination may drastically increase the contestant's chances of entering into the next or final round. However, if contestant makes it through the second round in more than one nomination, the judges will to choose the nomination for the contestant to compete in the final round


5. FIRST ROUND


a. Classical Music. One composition corresponding with requirements of the nomination should be performed. Transpositions are allowed for the age divisions a) under 10 and b) 11-14 and not allowed for the contestants from other age divisions. No microphone is allowed. Can be performed only with piano accompaniment. The maximum duration of the performance is 5 minutes


b. Musical Theater. One composition corresponding with the requirements of the nomination should be performed. Transpositions are allowed for the age divisions a) under 10 and b) 11-14 and not allowed for the contestants from other age divisions. No microphone is allowed. Can be performed only with piano accompaniment. The maximum duration of the performance is 5 minutes


c. Pop and Jazz. One composition corresponding with the requirements of the nomination should be performed. Transpositions are allowed for all age divisions. No microphone is allowed. Can be performed with backing track. The maximum duration of the performance is 5 minutes


Interstate and international contestants who are unable to appear in person for the First Round are expected to mail DVD with recording of their videotaped performance. Please refer to Interstate and International contestants requirements to find out more.


6. SECOND ROUND


a. Classical Music. One composition different from the one performed in the First Round and corresponding with requirements of the nomination should be performed. Transpositions are allowed for age divisions a) under 10 and b) 11-14 and are not allowed for the contestants from other age divisions. No microphone is allowed. Can be performed only with piano accompaniment. The maximum duration of the performance is 5 minutes


b. Musical Theater. One composition different from the one performed in the First Round and corresponding with requirements of the nomination should be performed. Second round will be closed to public


7. ACCOMPANISTS AND RECORDS


a. No accompanists are provided for the competition. Contestants must make their own arrangements and bring an accompanist along with them if needed.

b. No musical recordings are provided by The FEATured. For the First Round, contestants using backing tracks are required to bring along audio CDs with backing tracks for each of the three rounds. CDs must be labeled with name (s), age (for Duet/Trio/Group, specify only the age of the oldest of contestants) and names of the songs for each round (please specify whether it is solo or Duet/Trio/Group).

All the arrangements and transpositions should be done in advance. Back vocals are allowed only if they appear occasionally (not throughout the whole song) and used only to garnish but not to substitute the solo or group performance. No double track is allowed. In the event any violations of the rules or guidelines are detected, the contestant will be immediately disqualified


9. INTERSTATE AND INTERNATIONAL CONTESTANTS REQUIREMENTS BACKING TRACKS


Contestants who are unable to appear in person for the First and Second Rounds are required to submit DVDs with the recording of their videotaped performances for both rounds. DVDs must be labeled with name (s), age (for Duet/Trio/Group, specify only the age of the oldest of contestants) and names of the songs for each round (specify whether it is solo or Duet/Trio/Group).

Professional recordings are not necessary, however it is in the interests of participant to create the best audio and video quality possible where the volumes of both voice and backing track are nicely balanced and contestant's skills are reflected accurately. Audio and video tracks must match and be in sync. The recording must be acoustic and not contain any amplifications, enhancements or mixing of vocals. The only microphone involved should be the one of recording device and it should not be amplified. Violators of the rules will be immediately disqualified. Contestants are entirely responsible for the files to be valid. The FEATured will not contact contestants otherwise.

9. FINAL ROUND


Final Round of the competition will take place in Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Peter Norton Symphony Space. Participation in person is required.


a. Classical Music. One composition different from the ones performed in the First and Second Rounds and corresponding with requirements of the nomination should be performed. Transpositions are allowed for age divisions a) under 10 and b) 11-14 and are not allowed for the contestants from other age divisions. Can be performed only with piano (or guitar) accompaniment. The maximum duration of the performance is 4 minutes


b. Musical Theater. One composition different from the ones performed in the First and Second Rounds and corresponding with requirements of the nomination should be performed. Transpositions are allowed for age divisions a) under 10 and b) 11-14 and are not allowed for the contestants from other age divisions. No microphone is allowed. Can be performed only with piano (or guitar) accompaniment. The maximum duration of the performance is 4 minutes


c. Pop and Jazz. One composition different from the ones performed in the First and Second Rounds and corresponding with requirements of the nomination should be performed. Transpositions are allowed for all age divisions. Can be performed with backing track. The maximum duration of the performance is 4 minutes.


Microphone is allowed. However, we suggest to use microphone only when it is justified by genre and music style of the composition performed.


Important! If qualified for the final round, contestants are obligated to submit participation fee of $220 which will include 4 complimentary tickets for the Final Round


10. JUDGING CRITERIA


The scoring is based on 100 point system. Each judge will make his/her decision based on the following criteria:


a) contestant's skills over the vocal medium

b) the complexity and originality of contestant's performance

c) contestant's charisma and showmanship


25 points are available for each criterion from each judge:

Superior 21-25

Excellent 16-20

Good 11-15

Fair 6-10

Poor below 5


The final score will reflect an average score from all the judges. No communication or correspondence is guaranteed between judges and contestants. Scoring sheets with judges notes will be given away if available. The judges' decisions are final. No contestant shall question or harass a judge over his/her personal marks


11. AWARD CEREMONY


Award ceremony will take place in Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Peter Norton Symphony Space after the Final Round is completed and judges make their decisions. In person presence at the Award ceremony is highly desirable, otherwise awards and prizes will be transferred to representatives of awardee. The FEATured will not mail any awards or prizes


12. WINNERS AND AWARDS


a. Grand Prix, Gold medal and $500 will be awarded to an absolute winner of the competition. Award can be shared between no more than 2 contestants. Winners cannot receive any other awards except for special prizes


b. Best Classical singer award, Gold medal and $150 will be awarded to a winner in Classical Music nomination across all age divisions. Award can be shared between no more than 2 contestants. Winners cannot receive any other awards except for special prizes


c. Best Musical Theaters singer and $150 will be awarded to a winner in Musical Theater nomination across all age divisions. Award can be shared between no more than 2 contestants. Winners cannot receive any other awards except for special prizes


d. Best Pop and Jazz singer and $150 will be awarded to a winner in Jazz and Pop nomination across all age divisions. Award can be shared between no more than 2 contestants. Winners cannot receive any other awards except for special prizes


e. Gold medal and $50 will be awarded to winners in each nomination in each age division. For instance, for 10-13 age category gold medalists will be selected in each of the three nominations: Classical music, Musical Theater and Jazz and Pop. Same for every other age division. Award can be shared between no more than 2 contestants. Winner cannot receive any other awards except for special prizes


f. Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the contestants demonstrating high technical and artistic skills in each nomination in each age division. Award can be shared between 2 or more contestants


g. Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to all finalists


h. Special Prizes are to be announced


The prizes awarded to the winners are not transferable or exchangeable. At the discretion of judging panel, awards and prizes may or may not be awarded in the following situations:

a) the number of contestants is insufficient: less than 4 for each age division and less than 6 for each nomination. Nominations with less than 4 entries will be combined across age divisions. Nominations with less than 3 entries can be merged with other nominations, i.e.

b) quality of the performances do not warrant award or prize.

The judges' decisions will be final. No contestant shall question or harass a judge about his or her personal marks. All federal, state and
local taxes, as well as customs fees, if applicable, are the sole responsibility of the winners.


13. DRESS CODE


Contestants are expected to dress appropriately for their song. No flip-flops, shorts or tank-tops are allowed. It is in the best interest of the contestants to select clothes that will demonstrate their individuality, style and dedication. Contestants are to be judged on their over-all presentation.


14. VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHY


a) First Round is not open to public


b) The photography and videotaping are allowed during the Second Round (attendance ticket must be purchased)


b) The photography and videotaping are strictly prohibited during the Final round. In case of unauthorized use of cameras, violators will be asked to leave with no option for refund. Violators are also at risk of their equipment being confiscated by Peter Norton Symphony Space. Photo and video recordings of the Final Round will be available for order on our website.


15. PUBLICITY


By entering the competition, each contestant agrees to be photographed and videotaped and to waive any claim related to the use of that photography and/or video and to the rights of any copyright associated with said recordings. The FEATured reserves all print, electronic and broadcast rights and reserves the right to use any or all photography or video taken at the competition for future promotional purposes


16. TRAVEL EXPENSES


Contestants, their parents, guardians and accompanists must bear all the costs related to their travel to and from the competition

17. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS


1. All contestants, parents or legal guardians of The FEATured international singing competition are obligated to adhere by the rules and regulations of the competition established by the SEVEN NOTES NY Inc (further referred to as SEVEN NOTES).


2. By entering the competition, each contestant agrees that SEVEN NOTES, it's employees and representatives are not responsible and therefore cannot be held liable for:


a) any loss, personal injury, death or damage associated with this event,


b) damage, loss or theft of valuables left unattended on premises,


c) incomplete, incorrect, late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, illegible, unintelligible, stolen, altered or garbled entries,

d) problems related to technical malfunctions of electronic equipment, servers, providers computer online systems, computer hardware or software failures, satellites, phone lines, or for any other technical problems including failed, incomplete, garbled, partial or delayed computer transmissions,

e) any condition caused by events beyond the control of SEVEN NOTES that may cause the event to be disrupted, amended or canceled. Any changes to the competition will be notified to contestants as soon as possible


f) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the competition,


g) any actions, claims, suits, liabilities, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind in connection with the competition or resulting from acceptance, possession, or use of any prizes and awards,


3. By entering the competition, each contestant, parent or legal guardian agrees to abide by the SEVEN NOTES' decisions in respect of all matters having to do with the competition. All the decision are final, binding and no correspondence will be entered into. The FEATured reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any contestant should he/she:


a) violate General terms and conditions of the competition,

b) violate Official rules of the competition,

c) attempt to tamper with operation of the competition,

d) demonstrate unsportsmanlike behavior or intent to annoy or harass any person involved with the competition

4. By entering the competition, each contestant agrees to be solely responsible for all the issues regarding intellectual property rights.

Seven Notes NY Inc removes any liability from the Competition in terms of verifying and complying with any music licensing. All contestants retain all ownership and intellectual rights to the original compositions.
